Treatment of Fibromyalgia Syndrome

Fibromyalgia Syndrome (FMS) is a disease that involves one of the body's most important and complex defense systems: the Pluripotent Mesenchyme, also referred to as the "regulatory ground system." ( A. Pischinger, H. Heine, J. Issels). This system consists of the connective tissues that support and unite other tissues and structures, and account for nearly half of our body's weight.

The regulatory ground system is responsible for the processes of basic cellular regulation. It fulfills many vital tasks, such as promoting stem cell function and the formation of all types of blood cells; transit functions that allow communication and interactivity of nerves, blood cells, the lymph system; maintenance of homeostasis which is the internal state of the human body that needs to operate at its fullest potential; detoxification; storage of nutrients and toxins; and defense.

These essential functions embrace the whole organism. Therefore, it is understandable that their prolonged disturbance (due to various factors, for example an overload of toxic substances stored in the connective tissues or under-perfusion of oxygen) can result in the wide variety of symptoms that are typical in Fibromyalgia.

The syndrome of Fibromyalgia is known mainly for its widespread musculoskeletal pain, extreme fatigue, chronic sleeping disorders, chronic headaches, irritable bowel syndrome, multiple chemical sensitivities, joint dysfunction, and a host of other problems. There are many similarities with Chronic Fatigue Immune Deficiency Syndrome (CFS). Since the causes for Fibromyalgia Syndrome, Chronic Fatigue Immune Deficiency Syndrome, Lupus, Multiple Sclerosis and many other chronic degenerative diseases are still largely unknown to medical science, conventional treatment is normally geared towards the alleviation and suppression of symptoms.

If a treatment merely suppresses or temporarily alleviates the symptoms of the disease, but does not address the factors that allowed it to develop in the first place, then treatment has been incomplete and disease progression or recurrence is likely.

At the Issels Medical Center our physicians focus on the whole person and not just on the symptoms of the disease. Our doctors realize that constant pain, fatigue, and all of the other problems are symptoms of many chronically disturbed bodily systems.

A cell is capable of functioning only in its surrounding environment: the structured extra cellular space. It is the extra cellular space with the extra cellular fluid that enables metabolic processes to reach the cell and provide the essential preconditions for proper cellular health.

Unfortunately, modern lifestyles create serious chronic degeneration of this internal environment, which leads to a disturbed acid-base balance, reduced oxygen levels, decreased cellular nutrient intake, impaired waste disposal, and the build up of chemical toxins such as pesticides and heavy metals like mercury, lead, cadmium, and arsenic. A gradual deterioration of the immune functions becomes inevitable.

Microorganisms, such as certain mycoplasma species, found as contributory factors in Chronic Fatigue Immune Deficiency Syndrome, Fibromyalgia Syndrome, Lou Gehrig's Disease (ALS), Lupus, Multiple Sclerosis, Rheumatoid Arthritis, and other chronic degenerative diseases and immune disorders, will thrive in this unhealthy environment.

Therefore, our main goal at the Issels Medical Center is to find out and eliminate causative factors of this "unhealthy environment" with the help of a very sophisticated testing system and thorough examination of a wide range of factors on the physical, psychological and social levels.

The resulting Intensive Fibromyalgia Protocol (IFP) is a proprietary procedure that was developed by Dr. Christian N. Issels. It builds upon many years of experience in the successful treatment of a variety of chronic degenerative diseases and immune disorders including Fibromyalgia Syndrome.

Upon extensive diagnostic evaluation including modern complementary tools, special treatment components are integrated into an individualized treatment protocol   according to the following strategy.

1. Restoration of innate immunities by:

- Customized immunobiological preparations.

Autohemotherapy among other specialized treatment measures.

2. Removal of causal factors that are known to impair the body's regulatory,
repair and immune mechanisms and contribute to the disease
, such as:

• Nutritional imbalances.
• Abnormal bacterial intestinal flora.
• Chronic infections including mycoplasma and borrelia infections.
• Environmental, occupational and life style factors.
• Psychological factors.

3. Repair of damages to organs and organ systems by:

• Oxidative therapy to activate cellular respiration.
• Enzymatic therapy with proteolytic enzymes to aid in digestion and elimination of
immune suppressive factors such as immune complexes.
• Treatment of hypercoagulability and blood viscosity when indicated.
• Detoxification strategies to improve the elimination of toxins and metabolic
   residues.
• Homeopathy, phytotherapy.
• Psychological and emotional support..
• Physical therapy, acupuncture, massages according to individual needs.

4. Regeneration of organ function by:

Administration of glandulars. homeopathy.

5. Relief of disease symptoms. Preference is always given to the most effective, least aggressive and least invasive methods.

6. Education in a healthy lifestyle, nutrition, etc.

As every patient is an individual, every treatment program at the Issels Medical Center is customized to meet each patient's unique needs. This is the key to the treatment results.

* DISCLAIMER: The extent of the response to treatment varies from patient to patient, even with similar diagnosis as the internal bodily environment is unique to each individual patient.
